Fall is in full swing, and Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are fast approaching. Sweet treats will be right under your nose, so it’s important to remember proper oral hygiene. Before starting your fall festivities, remember that October is National Dental Hygiene Month!
This year, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) and the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company presented their “Brush. Floss. Rinse. Chew” theme for this month. We want to spread the word about oral health awareness in the United States. Dedicated dentists work hard to keep patients’ smiles strong and healthy.
The “Brush. Floss. Rinse. Chew” guidelines should be taken to heart:
- Brush for two minutes, two times a day. Use a soft-bristle brush and the correct technique to get rid of food particles, acid and sugar.
- Floss on a daily basis. Your gums need to be strong to fight gingivitis and gum disease.
- Rinse with ADA approved mouthwash. Swish away the plaque and germs that your toothbrush and floss couldn’t get.
- Chew gum, not the sugary kind. Sugar-free gum with Xylitol helps remove food particles, neutralize acid and fight nasty cavities.
